The website is now in two distinct parts:

  • Pages.This contains most of the content from the old site, and will be used for holding static material for reference.

  • Posts. This will be like a diary or blog. This will be updated frequently, to reflect what is happening within the society

The British Mexican Society is running its postgraduate prize once again for 2006. The Society offers a prize of £500 for the best Ph.D. thesis produced at any
British University or other institution of higher education on a topic related to Mexico. The next award will be made in respect of a Ph.D. thesis completed in the academic year 2005-2006.

The prize is open to students of any nationality and in any academic discipline providing they have finished their Ph.D. studies in any university in the U.K. The thesis must concern Mexico and make a substantial contribution to the topic studied.

A single prize will normally be awarded, but, the Society reserves the right to withhold the prize if, for any reason, it considers that there are no suitable entries. It also reserves the right to split the prize if there are two candidates of comparable merit.

Candidates who have completed their Ph.D. successfully during the academic year 2005-2006 (i.e. their thesis was examined between October 2005 and September of 2006) should write and send their applications to:

All candidates must include the following:

  • Name and nationality of the author
  • Thesis title
  • One A4 sheet resume of their thesis
  • An introduction
  • A conclusion

Candidates should provide the names and addresses of their examiners and details of where the thesis is available to be consulted.

Candidates should have a letter/document of the university or institute to confirm that the Ph.D. degree has been conferred.

Candidates should apply as soon as possible in writing, in English, from 2nd October 2006 and in any case not later than 30 April 2007

The prize will be approved by an Academic Committee -made up of specialists in the field of the candidate- and with recommendations from the Society. The successful British Mexican Society Prize winner will be informed in writing as well as via the Society’s Newsletter. The Society will endeavour to inform all candidates of its decision by the Spring 2007. The winner will give a talk to the British Mexican Society Members and will receive the prize in the autumn of 2007 (details will be available at a later date).
